Delicious dessert bursting with apple slices and sweet figs, just like Grandma used to make.
Ingredients:
  • 5 cups soft white bread crumbs (about 10 slices bread)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons apple pie spice
  • 4 large baking apples (about 2 lb), peeled, sliced (8 cups)
  • 16 medium dried figs, quartered (1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 12x8-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Combine bread crumbs, granulated sugar, and butter in a medium bowl. Evenly spread one-third of the mixture on the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Combine brown sugar and apple pie spice in a bowl. Toss in apples and figs until coated. Spread over the crumb mixture in dish. Pour apple cider evenly, then sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top.
  • Bake until apples are tender, topping is golden brown, for 50 to 60 minutes. Serve warm.
