Asian pork “fried” rice

Effortlessly whip up delicious Asian rice using just the microwave - no cleanup required!
Ingredients:
  • 12.00 gm sesame seeds
  • 200g (1 cup) long grain rice
  • 400ml (2 cups) boiling water
  • 45g (1/4 cup) brown sugar
  • 43.20 gm hoisin sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tsp finely grated fresh ginger
  • 57.20 gm honey
  • 42.00 gm dark soy sauce
  • 600g pork neck, cut into 2 thick strips
  • 18.40 gm vegetable oil
  • 2 bacon rashers, coarsely chopped
  • 1 brown onion, finely chopped
  • 150g (1 cup) frozen peas, thawed
  • 4 green shallots, finely chopped,
  • Shredded green shallots, extra, to serve
Instructions:
  • Spread sesame seeds on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave in 30-second intervals at full power, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool.
  • In a spacious microwave-safe bowl, combine rice, boiling water, and salt. Cover with pierced plastic wrap to release steam. Follow SENSOR COOK MENU instructions for 0.2kg of rice, then fluff with a fork and let stand, covered, to stay warm.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, mix sugar, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and soy sauce. Microwave on high for 1 minute until the sugar dissolves. Place half of the pork on a baking paper-lined crisp tray and microwave on high for 9 minutes. Brush the pork with half of the hoisin glaze and use the GRILL COOK MENU function to grill for 7 minutes. Turn the pork, brush with more glaze, and grill for another 7 minutes. Repeat the process of tossing the pork with glaze and grilling for 7 more minutes or until tender. Transfer the cooked pork to a bowl and repeat the steps with the remaining pork and hoisin glaze.
  • In a 2.5 litre (10 cup) microwave-safe dish, combine oil, bacon, and onion. Cover and microwave on high for 5 minutes, stirring halfway through, until fragrant.
  • Combine peas, shallots, rice, and 3 tablespoons of savory pork juices, stirring thoroughly. Microwave covered on high for 2-3 minutes until the rice is warmed through. Serve rice with sliced pork, sesame seeds, a drizzle of pork juices, and extra shallots on top.
