Marinate lamb in Asian sauce, serve with fried rice for a flavorful family dinner.
Ingredients:
  • 80ml kecap manis
  • 1 tsp five spice powder
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 3 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 4 x 200g lamb backstraps
  • 36.40 gm peanut oil
  • 1 red onion, cut into thin wedges
  • 200g jasmine rice
  • 1 bunch gai lan (Chinese broccoli), cut into 5cm lengths, blanched in boiling water for 2-3 minutes
  • 9.00 gm sesame seeds, toasted
  • 2-3 spring onions, thinly sliced on an angle
Instructions:
  • In a shallow dish, mix kecap, five spice, half of the garlic, and 2 teaspoons of ginger. Add the lamb, coat it well, and let it marinate at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • In a large non-stick frypan over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Take the lamb out of the bowl, keeping the marinade aside. Cook the lamb for 3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to your preferred doneness. Transfer the lamb to a plate, cover it with foil, and let it rest while you prepare the fried rice.
  • Drizzle the rest of the oil into the pan. Sauté the onion with the rest of the garlic and ginger, stirring, for 1-2 minutes until the onion slightly caramelizes. Pour in the marinade and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes, then mix in the rice and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the gai lan and sesame, mix well. Cut the lamb into thick slices, then serve over rice in bowls. Garnish with spring onion.
