"Brie baked inside sourdough bread with caramelized shallots and pears for a decadent and elegant dish."
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 2 pears - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 0.33333334326744 cup dry white wine
  • 0.5 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 (8 ounce) round loaf sourdough bread
  • 1 (8 ounce) round Brie cheese
  • 0.5 cup slivered almonds
  • Assorted crackers
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Cook and stir shallot for 1 minute until softened. Add thinly sliced pears and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Increase heat to medium-high, pour in white wine, brown sugar, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the liquid evaporates and the pears caramelize lightly, about 10 minutes. Set aside.
  • Create a generous hollow in the center of the sourdough loaf, leaving a half-inch border. Cut the bread pieces for dipping and keep aside. Gently score the perimeter of the Brie by making a 1/4-inch incision with a paring knife. Split the Brie into two halves by wrapping an 18-inch string or dental floss around the scored line and pulling each end outward.
  • Place one half of the Brie, cut-side-up, into the sourdough loaf, then add half of the pear mixture and sprinkle with half of the slivered almonds. Add the remaining Brie half, spread with the rest of the pear mixture, and sprinkle with the remaining slivered almonds. Transfer the loaded loaf onto a baking sheet.
  • Place in a warm oven for 45 minutes, or until luxuriously soft and gooey. Enjoy with sliced sourdough bread and crackers.
