Indulge in a simple yet elegant baked fig dessert, perfect for a classy autumn meal.
Ingredients:
  • 250.00 ml vanilla sugar (ses note)
  • 6 fresh figs (ripe but not over-ripe)
  • Melted butter, to grease
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a piping hot 220°C.
  • Butter a high-sided gratin or baking dish generously so that the figs can fit snugly inside.
  • In a bowl, place the sugar. Wash the figs thoroughly and while still damp, coat them generously in the sugar. Repeat the coating process if needed.
  • In the base of the dish, combine any leftover sugar with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Add the figs and bake for 10 minutes until a luscious sauce forms from the sugar mixture (remember to check periodically to prevent figs from burning).
  • Let the baked figs cool slightly, then chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Serve drizzled with sauce.
