Homemade French toast sticks with sweet vanilla icing, kid-friendly and delicious.
Ingredients:
  • 1 loaf bread
  • 3 extra large eggs
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup baking mix (such as Bisquick ®)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk, or more as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking sheet lightly.
  • Cut the bread into 1-inch thick slices, then cut each slice into thirds to create bread sticks.
  • Combine eggs, milk, and vanilla extract in a shallow bowl and whisk until smooth.
  • Combine sugar, baking mix, and cinnamon on a shallow plate and mix well.
  • Quickly dip sticks into the egg mixture, ensuring they are lightly coated. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mix, then place on the baking sheet.
  • Bake until perfectly golden and crispy, flipping halfway through, for a total of 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven.
  • Bake the sticks and melt butter for icing in a saucepan over medium heat. Take off heat, then add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth, adding more milk for drizzling consistency. Serve French toast sticks with icing.
