Irresistible make-ahead French toast with sweet praline topping, no syrup needed.
Ingredients:
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped toasted pecans
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions:
  • Prepare the baking pan by greasing it, then neatly line up the bread slices in the pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth. Pour this delightful mixture over the bread slices, ensuring each one is coated evenly. Cover the baking dish with foil and chill in the refrigerator for 8 hours to overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Mix together the butter, brown sugar, chopped pecans, corn syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Spread the delicious praline topping evenly over the bread mixture.
  • Bake in the oven until puffed and golden, around 40 minutes.
