Ingredients:
  • 750g Carbon Neutral Beef Mince
  • 70g (1 cup) fresh breadcrumbs, made from day-old bread
  • 1 large brown onion, grated
  • 62.50 ml chopped fresh continental parsley leaves
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 egg, lightly whisked
  • 24.40 gm worcestershire sauce
  • 10.40 gm tabasco sauce (optional), or to taste
  • 36.40 gm olive oil
  • 150g cheddar, thinly sliced
  • 150g Cheddar Cheese, thinly sliced, to serve
  • 80ml (1/3 cup) American mustard (optional)
  • 6 lettuce leaves
  • 450g (about 3 medium) ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • Tomato sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • Start by covering a baking tray with parchment paper. In a large bowl, combine beef mince, breadcrumbs, onion, parsley, garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco sauce (if desired). Mix together using your hands until just combined.
  • Form the mixture into 6 equally sized patties, each measuring 10cm in diameter and 1.5cm thick, using your hands.
  • Transfer the patties to the prepared tray, then cover them with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes to allow them to rest.
  • In a large non-stick frying pan over medium-low heat, heat half of the oil. Cook half of the patties for about 4 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and fully cooked. Transfer the cooked patties to a plate, cover to keep warm, and set aside. Repeat the process with the remaining oil and patties.
  • Preheat the grill on high while lining a baking tray with foil. Toast the hamburger buns, cut-side up, under the grill until golden. Keep the grill on. Place the patties on the prepared tray and top them with cheddar. Broil for 1 minute, or until the cheddar is melted.
  • If using, spread mustard on the bottom halves of the toasted hamburger buns. Layer with lettuce, tomato, and patties. Add a dollop of tomato sauce. Finally, cover with the top halves of the buns before serving.
