Irresistible homemade burgers that will make you a family favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 750g beef mince
  • 70g (1 cup) breadcrumbs, made from day-old bread
  • 62.50 ml chopped fresh continental parsley
  • 1 large brown onion, coarsely grated
  • 1 egg, lightly whisked
  • 24.40 gm Worcestershire sauce
  • 10.40 gm red Tabasco pepper sauce (optional), or to taste
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper
  • 36.40 gm olive oil
  • 6 hamburger buns, split
  • 150g cheddar, thinly sliced, to serve
  • 3 (about 450g) ripe tomatoes, sliced, to serve
  • Tomato sauce, to serve
  • 6 iceberg lettuce leaves, shredded, to serve
Instructions:
  • Combine beef mince, breadcrumbs, parsley, onion, garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco sauce in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, then mix well using your hands until evenly combined.
  • Take the mixture and separate it into 6 equal parts. Shape each part into a patty approximately 1.5cm thick using your hands. You can use a 125ml/1/2-cup measuring cup to help if desired.
  • Arrange the patties in a neat layer on a tray lined with greaseproof paper. Seal with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes. (Chilling the patties ensures they stay intact during cooking. For extended chilling, adjust the cooking time slightly.)
  • In a large non-stick frying pan, heat half the oil over medium-low heat. Cook half the patties for 4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate, cover loosely with foil to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining oil and patties.
  • Preheat your grill on high. Toast the hamburger buns, cut-side up, under the grill until golden, about 1 minute per side. You may need to do this in batches depending on your grill size. Keep the grill on for the next steps.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing the patties and cheddar on the bottom halves of the toasted buns and melting the cheddar under the grill. Add tomato slices, tomato sauce, and lettuce. Season with salt and pepper, cover with the top buns, and serve right away.
