Whip up a tasty Chinese beef and broccoli stir-fry in just 30 minutes! Juicy steak and crispy broccoli coated in a flavorful sauce, perfect with rice.
Ingredients:
  • For the beef:
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese rice cooking wine or dry sherry
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3/4 pound flank or sirloin, sliced thinly across the grain
  • For the sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • For the stir fry:
  • 3/4 pound broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons high-heat cooking oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, very finely minced or pressed through a garlic press
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Prepare the beef marinade by combining 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon Chinese rice wine, 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper in a bowl. Mix in the beef slices until evenly coated. Allow to marinate for 10 minutes.
  • Combine oyster sauce, Chinese rice wine, soy sauce, and chicken broth in a small bowl for the sauce. Keep it aside.
  • Prepare the broccoli: Boil water and quickly cook the broccoli until slightly tender, around 2 minutes. Drain well.
  • For an expertly seared beef, heat a wok or large frying pan over high heat until water sizzles and evaporates instantly. Coat the pan with oil, add beef in a single layer, and sear for 1 minute. Flip the beef, add garlic, and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until beef is no longer pink.
  • Combine the sauce, cornstarch slurry, and broccoli: Stir in the sauce and the cornstarch mixture (1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon of water) until thickened, about 30 seconds. Add the broccoli and serve promptly with steamed rice or as desired.
