Elevate classic sausage rolls with gourmet beef and caramelized onions - a crowd-pleasing hit!
Ingredients:
  • 20g almond
  • 2 brown onions, thinly sliced
  • 32.00 gm brown sugar
  • 20.00 ml white wine vinegar
  • 500g 4 star beef mince
  • 1 free range egg, lightly whisked
  • 70g breadcrumbs
  • 20.00 ml thyme leaves, plus extra to garnish
  • 20.80 gm tomato sauce
  • 2 sheets ready-rolled puff pastry, just thawed
  • 1 free range egg, extra, lightly whisked
  • Mixed salad leaves, to serve
  • Tomato sauce, extra, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 220C and prepare a large baking tray by lining it with baking paper.
  • In a medium frying pan over medium heat, sauté onions until browned, about 10 minutes. Stir in sugar and vinegar, and cook until onions are caramelized, about 3 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Combine onion mixture with mince, egg, breadcrumbs, thyme, tomato sauce, and seasoning in a large bowl. Mix well using your hands.
  • Cut each pastry sheet in half to form 2 rectangles. Spread one-quarter of the beef mixture along one long side of each rectangle. Roll pastry to enclose filling, then cut each roll into 3 pieces diagonally. Place on the prepared tray, brush with egg, and sprinkle with almonds and extra thyme. Bake for 20-25 mins until pastry is golden and filling is cooked through.
  • Garnish with a fresh salad and drizzle with additional tomato sauce before serving.
