Beer-glazed German brats with sauerkraut - sticky, flavorful perfection in every bite.
Ingredients:
  • 0.125 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 0.125 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle lager beer
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1 pound fresh bratwurst sausages
  • 1 pound sauerkraut (preferably barrel-aged), drained
Instructions:
  • Grind celery seeds and caraway seeds in a mortar and pestle until finely crushed.
  • Combine the beer, brown sugar, dry mustard, onion powder, pepper, dill, and crushed seeds in a bowl until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  • Add the brats to a big nonstick skillet over medium heat. Pour the beer mixture on top and let it come to a boil. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer gently for 10 minutes.
  • Uncover and turn up the heat to medium. Simmer the sauce until it thickens to a syrupy consistency, about 20 minutes. Swirl the brats in the thickened sauce until fully coated. Plate the brats and cover to keep them warm.
  • Stir sauerkraut into the skillet with the remaining sauce. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes. Place sauerkraut on a serving platter and top with warm brats.
