Tender grilled Korean beef with a spicy 12-ingredient marinade featuring gochujang, soy sauce, mirin, pear, ginger, and garlic.
Ingredients:
  • 6 scallions, chopped
  • 0.5 cup coarsely grated pear
  • 3 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, or more to taste
  • 4 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chile paste)
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
Instructions:
  • Combine scallions, pear, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, 1 tbsp mirin, 1 tbsp brown sugar, garlic, lime juice, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Transfer marinade to a resealable plastic bag. Add beef, coat well, remove air, and seal the bag. Refrigerate for 8 hours to overnight.
  • Get your outdoor grill ready by preheating it to medium-high heat and giving the grate a light coating of oil.
  • Place marinated beef slices on the sizzling grill, keeping the flavorful marinade aside. Grill until perfectly cooked through, around 3 minutes on each side. Transfer the succulent beef to a stylish serving dish.
  • In a saucepan, combine marinade ingredients: soy sauce, water, gochujang, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon mirin. Bring to a boil and simmer until sauce thickens, about 3 to 5 minutes. Pour over beef.
