Crispy fried green tomatoes: Juicy inside, crispy outside, quick and easy late summer treat for using up green tomatoes.
Ingredients:
  • 4 large green tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • Prepare all your fresh and flavorful ingredients for a delicious culinary adventure.
  • Cut the tomatoes into 1/2 inch slices, removing and discarding the ends.
  • In a medium bowl, beat eggs and milk until combined. Place flour on a plate. On a separate plate, mix cornmeal, bread crumbs, salt, and pepper. Coat tomatoes with flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumb mixture.
  • In a large deep skillet, heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C. Place tomatoes in the hot oil in batches of 4 or 5 without letting them touch. Fry until crispy and golden brown on one side, then flip and fry the other side.
  • Place the fried tomatoes on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat with the rest of the tomatoes.
  • Delight in your dish served hot!
