Ziti baked with savory sausage, creamy ricotta, melty mozzarella, and rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package ziti pasta
  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 (24 ounce) jars marinara sauce
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried basil, divided
  • 12 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1.5 teaspoons Italian seasoning, divided
  • 1 dash salt and pepper
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Boil a large pot of lightly salted water. Add pasta and cook until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes; drain.
  • In a deep skillet, brown the sausage over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain, crumble, and set aside. In a saucepan, heat marinara sauce with 1 teaspoon of basil until bubbling. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese with 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Begin by elegantly coating the base of a 9x13 inch baking dish with sauce. Next, assemble layers of 1/2 the ziti, 1/2 the sausage, 1/2 the ricotta, and 1/2 the mozzarella, then gently spread half of the sauce on top. Repeat the layering process before delicately sprinkling the remaining 1/2 teaspoons of basil and Italian seasoning over the top.
  • Place in a perfectly heated oven for 40-45 minutes.
