Enhance sugar cookies by rolling them into balls, coating with sugar, and adding colored sugars for festive flair.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup colored sugar for decoration
Instructions:
  • First, preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Then, generously grease your cookie sheets.
  • Cream together shortening, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth in a large bowl. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt; blend into the creamed mixture. Roll dough into 1/2 inch balls, place 1 inch apart on cookie sheets, flatten slightly, and sprinkle with colored sugar.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, then let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
