Crowd-pleasing breakfast casserole for a satisfying morning meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 lb ground breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 1/4 cups Original Bisquick™ baking mix
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously grease a 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish with shortening or cooking spray.
  • Brown the sausage in a 10-inch skillet. Place the cooked sausage on a plate lined with napkins, and leave 1 tablespoon of drippings in the skillet.
  • In the same skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add flour and stir until mixture thickens. Slowly pour in 2 cups milk, whisking constantly. Increase heat to medium-high and cook for about 5 minutes until thickened, whisking continuously. Stir in cooked sausage, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Remove from heat.
  • In a medium bowl, combine Bisquick mix and 1/2 cup of milk. Scoop spoonfuls of dough into a baking dish and top with half of the Cheddar cheese.
  • Combine eggs, 1/4 cup milk, 1 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper in a large bowl. Pour mixture over biscuits, then top with sausage gravy and remaining cheese.
  • Bake until golden and bubbling, about 40-45 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh chives before serving hot.
