Flaky golden biscuits and venison steaks drenched in maple-infused country gravy.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 0.5 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pound boneless venison steak, cubed
  • 0.5 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) and generously grease a baking sheet.
  • In a bowl, combine self-rising flour and sugar. Add melted butter and 3/4 cup of milk, then gently knead the dough 5 to 7 times until just combined. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness on a floured surface and use a biscuit cutter or glass rim to cut out biscuits.
  • Bake until the biscuits are beautifully golden brown, about 12 to 14 minutes in the preheated oven.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add deer meat to the sizzling butter. Season with salt and pepper, then pan-fry until golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Transfer the meat to a platter.
  • Add chicken broth to the skillet and bring it to a boil, scraping up the flavorful browned bits with a wooden spoon. Then, mix in 1 cup of milk and maple syrup. Gradually whisk in all-purpose flour until the mixture is smooth. Let the gravy simmer, season with salt and pepper, and thicken it to the desired consistency while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Finally, place the deer meat back into the gravy and let it simmer until thickened, for about 5-10 minutes. Serve the delicious gravy over warm biscuits.
