Make this cozy winter dessert ahead for extra time with guests and less kitchen stress.
Ingredients:
  • 2 x 300g packets frozen blackberries
  • 300g packet frozen pitted cherries
  • 141.90 gm caster sugar
  • 20.00 ml finely grated lemon rind
  • 32.50 gm cornflour
  • 187.50 gm self-raising flour
  • 50.00 gm almond meal
  • 80g butter, chopped
  • 169.95 gm milk
  • 37.95 gm walnuts, crumbled
  • 20.00 ml slivered almonds
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Combine berries, cherries, 1/4 cup sugar, lemon rind, and cornflour in a large bowl, making sure to coat them well. Transfer the mixture to an 8-cup ovenproof baking dish, ensuring to sprinkle any remaining cornflour mixture from the bowl over the top.
  • In a large bowl, combine self-raising flour, almond meal, and 1/3 cup of sugar. Use your fingertips to rub in the butter until fine crumbs form. Pour in the milk and stir until a soft dough just comes together.
  • Drop dough by spoonfuls evenly over the filling. Gently spread the dough to create a thin topping, embracing any gaps that appear. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar, walnuts, and almonds over the top.
  • Bake until golden and bubbling for 50 minutes. Let it sit in the pan for 10 minutes before serving with dark chocolate custard.
