Vibrant pale pink applesauce made by cooking apples with skins on.
Ingredients:
  • 5 pounds Macintosh apples, quartered and cored
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.25 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions:
  • In a large pot, combine apples, sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until apples are very soft and break down, approximately 25 minutes.
  • Take the apples off the heat and let them cool. Puree the apples in a food processor or food mill, and strain the mixture through a sieve if using a food processor to remove any apple skin fragments.
  • Add the warm, comforting flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg. Enjoy it either at a cozy room temperature or chilled from the fridge for a refreshing treat.
