Delicious Cherry Cookies passed down for generations. Cherished family recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 0.5 cup butter flavored shortening
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
  • 2 (10 ounce) jars maraschino cherries, drained
Instructions:
  • Combine shortening and cream cheese in a medium bowl until fully mixed. Add the flour and use your hands to form a dough. If the mixture is dry, add a few teaspoons of water. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease your cookie sheets.
  • Prepare the rolling surface by generously dusting it with confectioners' sugar. Roll out the dough until it is 1/8 inch thick. Cut the dough into 1x4 inch strips. Lay a cherry on the end of each strip and roll it up, starting from the cherry. Transfer the rolled strips onto lined cookie sheets and lightly dust them with confectioners' sugar.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 7 to 10 minutes until lightly browned. Dust with confectioners' sugar. Allow the cookies to cool before serving as the cherries are very hot.
