Impress guests with easy puff pastry appetizer featuring brie cheese and caramelized onions.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 ounces Brie cheese, rind removed, softened
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds, or more to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons water
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add onions, brown sugar, and vinegar. Cook and stir often until onions are golden brown and caramelized, around 15 minutes. Remove from skillet with a slotted spoon and allow to cool to room temperature in a bowl.
  • On a floured surface, roll out puff pastry into an 11x18-inch rectangle. Spread Brie cheese over the pastry, layer with caramelized onions, and sprinkle with caraway seeds. Roll up one long edge towards the center, then roll up from the other side so both rolls meet in the center. Using a serrated knife, cut the rolled pastry into 1/2-inch slices.
  • Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the slices on top and press down to 1/4-inch thickness. Chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for the perfect cooking environment.
  • In a small bowl, combine the egg and water to create a shiny egg wash. Brush this mixture over the slices.
  • Bake pinwheels in the oven until beautifully puffed and golden brown, around 12 minutes.
