Broccoli and Onion Casserole

Perfect for holiday feasts, this make-ahead side dish is always a hit and pairs well with ham or turkey. Simply prepare in advance, chill, and bake to perfection when ready.
Ingredients:
  • 3 heads broccoli, cut into florets
  • 4 onions, quartered
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • For perfectly cooked broccoli, steam it in a basket over boiling water until tender. In a separate pot, simmer the onions until soft. Finally, arrange the broccoli and onions in the dish.
  • - In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the flour until smooth. - Add the milk and cook until thickened. - Stir in the cream cheese until melted. - Pour the mixture over the broccoli and onions. - Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese and top with bread crumbs.
  • Bake covered in a preheated oven for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes until lightly browned.
