Cheesy broccoli calzones: a quick Italian delight in just 35 minutes!
Ingredients:
  • 1 container (15 oz) fat-free ricotta cheese
  • 1 box (9 oz) frozen cut broccoli, thawed
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fat-free egg product or 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 loaf (1 lb) frozen wheat or white bread dough, thawed
  • 1 can (8 oz) pizza sauce
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease 2 cookie sheets with shortening. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl, excluding the bread dough and pizza sauce.
  • Divide the bread dough into 6 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a 7-inch round on a lightly floured surface using a floured rolling pin.
  • Spread the cheese mixture on one half of each dough round, leaving a 1-inch border. Fold the dough over the filling and press to seal. Transfer the calzones to the cookie sheets.
  • Bake until beautifully golden for about 20 minutes. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • In a small saucepan, warm up the pizza sauce over medium heat for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's hot. Pour the warm sauce over the calzones before serving.
