Colonial-inspired Boston Brown Bread made with cornmeal, molasses, and a touch of rye meal for an authentic and rich flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup whole-grain cornmeal
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F and generously coat a 2-quart casserole dish with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together all ingredients using an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the sides of the bowl constantly. Increase the speed to medium and beat for another 30 seconds, scraping the bowl constantly. Transfer the batter into a casserole dish.
  • Bake the dish for about 1 hour until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Gently release the sides of the bread using a metal spatula and carefully remove the bread from the casserole. Let it cool on a rack for 30 minutes before slicing. Enjoy while warm.
