Try this mouthwatering twist on classic appetizers - crispy calamari smothered in tangy blue cheese and spicy hot sauce, finished with a refreshing tomato relish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 1 pound baby calamari - rinsed, dried, and sliced into rings
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.5 cup diced tomatoes
  • 0.25 cup diced red onion
  • 0.25 cup diced celery
  • 0.25 cup crumbled blue cheese, or to taste
  • 0.25 cup blue cheese salad dressing, or to taste
  • 0.25 cup Buffalo wing sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®), or to taste
Instructions:
  • In a resealable plastic bag, mix flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add calamari and shake until fully coated.
  • Warm the oil in a skillet over medium to medium-high heat until it reaches 395 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine juicy tomatoes, aromatic onion, and crunchy celery in a bowl to create a tantalizing tomato relish. Set it aside for later.
  • Pat calamari dry to remove excess flour, then carefully fry in batches in hot oil until crispy and golden, about 1 minute per batch. Drain on paper towels before transferring to a serving plate.
  • Generously sprinkle crumbled blue cheese, drizzle with blue cheese salad dressing, add hot sauce, and finish with a sprinkle of tomato relish.
