Maple syrup sweetened Canadian apple pie.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 5 cups apple - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 0.75 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 0.5 teaspoon water
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and prepare a pie dish by lining it with one crust.
  • In a big bowl, combine cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix in apples, maple syrup, and a whole egg.
  • Pour the delicious apple mixture into the crust, top it with the other crust, seal the edges, and trim the excess dough. Create a few small slits on top to release steam. Whisk egg yolk and water, brush over the pie. Lastly, cover the pie with foil, then bake on a sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the crust is golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.
