Indulgent Ontario apple pie with crumbly topping, a must-try along the Apple Pie Trail.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 cups chopped apples
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons chilled butter
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, elegantly whisk together 3/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons of flour, and a pinch of salt. Add a luxurious touch of sour cream, an exquisite egg, and a splash of vanilla extract. Gently fold in the fresh apples and pour the decadent mixture into the awaiting unbaked pie crust.
  • Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then lower the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the pie.
  • Bake pie for 30 minutes until apples are tender. Let it cool for 30 minutes before serving.
