Fall-spiced deep-dish apple pie with a crunchy oat crumble - a must-try dessert for any gathering.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 0.25 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 0.375 cup water
  • 6 apples - peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground mulling spices
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Rub in egg yolks and cold butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Gradually add water until dough begins to come together. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes before using.
  • On a generously floured surface, gently flatten the pie dough and transfer it to a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • Mix together apples, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, mulling spices, and a pinch of salt in a large bowl until well blended. Transfer the apple mixture into the pie shell.
  • In a bowl, use an electric mixer to blend 1/2 cup of softened butter and 1/2 cup of sugar until creamy. Add 3/4 cup of flour, oats, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt, then combine well. Sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  • Bake the pie in the oven until the crust and topping turn golden brown and the filling starts to bubble, approximately 1 hour.
