Elevate candied apples with vibrant red hue using black currant syrup.
Ingredients:
  • 30 small red apples
  • 5 cups white sugar
  • 0.5 cup golden syrup
  • 1.5 cups mineral water
  • 2 teaspoons black currant syrup
Instructions:
  • Insert lollipop sticks or wooden craft sticks into each apple at the stem end and set aside.
  • In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, golden syrup, and water. Boil the mixture, then simmer over medium heat until it reaches 300 to 310 degrees F (149 to 154 degrees C) or until a syrup drop forms hard threads in cold water, about 45 minutes.
  • Take the sugar mixture off the heat and blend in the black currant syrup. Dip all apples by the stick, then cool by placing the stick in foam board. If unavailable, place on waxed paper or aluminum foil without touching.
