Bacon-wrapped mini sausages slow-cooked in sweet cola, brown sugar, and aromatic spices create a hassle-free, irresistible appetizer.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (14 ounce) package little smokie sausages
  • 1 pound bacon slices, cut into thirds crosswise
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar, divided
  • 0.5 (12 fluid ounce) can cola-flavored carbonated beverage
  • 0.5 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Wrap each mini sausage with a strip of bacon and secure with toothpicks.
  • Lay the appetizers on a large baking sheet and generously sprinkle with 3/4 cup of luscious brown sugar.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes until the sugar is melted and bubbling, remembering to turn the appetizers after 20 minutes.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the appetizers to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining 3/4 cup of brown sugar and five-spice powder over the smokies, then drizzle with cola. Optionally, add hot sauce to suit your taste.
  • Cook the dish on High for 4 hours, then serve while warm.
