Simply coat scone dough with melted butter, cheese, and bacon in a dish for delectable, buttery scones - ideal for snacking or entertaining.
Ingredients:
  • 125g butter, melted
  • 375g (2 1/2 cups) self-raising flour
  • 500ml (2 cups) buttermilk
  • 65g (3/4 cup) coarsely grated cheddar
  • 3 shortcut bacon rashers, finely chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan forced and pour the melted butter into a 20cm square ovenproof dish.
  • In a large bowl, create a well in the center of the flour and pour in the buttermilk, gently mixing until just combined. Transfer the dough to a prepared dish and use the back of a spoon to evenly spread it into the corners, allowing the butter to ooze over the top.
  • Cut the dough into 9 squares using a large egg lifter in a downward motion to let the butter flow into the cuts. Top with cheese and bacon.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and risen. Let the scones sit for 10 minutes to soak up the delicious butter. Serve warm. Check out our video for guidance on making Cheese and Bacon Butter Bath Scones.
