Cheesy sourdough bread with buttery poppy seed filling, ideal for summer BBQs and Independence Day celebrations.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 pound butter
  • 1 large onion, minced
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds, or to taste
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf sourdough French bread
  • 1 pound white American cheese, sliced
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350°F (175°C).
  • In a small saucepan, gently melt butter over medium-low heat. Sauté onion in the butter until translucent, about 5-10 minutes. Mix in poppy seeds.
  • Slice the bread without cutting all the way through, keeping the bottom intact. Insert an American cheese slice into each slit, then generously spoon in the poppy seed mixture. Finally, securely wrap the loaf in aluminum foil for baking.
  • Bake in the oven until the cheese is gooey and melted, approximately 30 minutes.
