Gourmet bison burger pasta bake with savory homemade burgers, tomatoes, and gooey Cheddar cheese for a decadent twist on a classic comfort dish.
Ingredients:
  • 4 slices whole-grain bread, processed into fine crumbs
  • 0.5 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1.25 pounds ground bison
  • 0.5 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 2 cups rotini pasta
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • Mix bread crumbs, onion, ginger, mustard, salt, and curry powder in a bowl. Add ground bison, oats, and eggs; mix thoroughly. Shape the mixture into 4 patties.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sizzle patties in olive oil until perfectly golden on both sides, approximately 5 minutes each. Ensure burgers reach an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C) with an instant-read thermometer. Then, plate and let them cool completely.
  • Boil salted water, cook rotini until al dente, drain, and transfer to a casserole dish.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Layer the pasta with tomatoes and tomato sauce, then sprinkle half of the Cheddar cheese over the tomatoes. Top with the burgers and sprinkle the remaining cheese over the burgers and tomatoes.
  • Bake until the cheese is gooey and the tomato sauce is bubbling, approximately 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
