Indulge in a delicious cheesy ham and tomato pasta sprinkled with crispy breadcrumbs - a flavorful Italian delight.
Ingredients:
  • 11/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (8 oz)
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 11/2 cups chopped cooked ham
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (8 oz)
  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs (about 1 1/2 slices bread)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Prepare the macaroni according to package instructions, ensuring not to overcook.
  • In a 3-quart saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium-high heat. Sauté garlic until golden, then lower the heat to medium. Add flour, salt, mustard, and red pepper; cook until smooth and bubbly. Slowly pour in milk while stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Finally, fold in ham, tomatoes, and cooked macaroni.
  • Take the pot off the heat and stir in the cheese until it melts completely. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs with melted butter and sprinkle it over the macaroni.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.
