Elevate your meals with rich and flavorful stovetop chicken bone broth. Roast bones for depth, then simmer to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • aluminum foil
  • 1 leftover chicken carcass, broken into pieces
  • 1 onion, roughly chopped
  • 6 cups water, or as needed to cover
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 0.5 tablespoon ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) and line a baking sheet with shiny aluminum foil.
  • Arrange the chicken bones on the baking sheet.
  • Slide the baking sheet into the oven that's ready and let the bones roast for 30 minutes.
  • Carefully transfer the bones from the baking sheet into a big stockpot. Pour in onion and water, making sure the bones are covered by 2 inches. Stir in vinegar, salt, and pepper, then bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer, partially covered, for 4 to 5 hours. Skim off any froth or foam that forms on the surface using a large spoon, occasionally checking in.
  • Take the pot off the heat and allow it to cool. Strain the broth through a fine mesh strainer into another pot. Let it cool completely before storing it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freezing until needed.
