Award-winning Fall 2010 recipe: Enhance sugar cookies with a unique blend of five spices.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 3 tablespoons coarse white sparkling sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, mix the cookie mix and five-spice powder until well combined. Add the butter and egg and mix until a soft dough forms. Gently fold in the almonds.
  • Shape the dough into 36 (1-inch) balls, coating one side of each ball with coarse sugar. Arrange the balls on ungreased cookie sheets, placing them 2 inches apart with the sugar side facing up.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges start to brown. Let cool for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store covered at room temperature.
