Indulgent chocolate cake elevated with a hint of cinnamon for added depth of flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 200g butter, chopped
  • 135.00 gm brown sugar
  • 4.40 gm vanilla essence
  • 187.50 gm self-raising flour
  • 32.50 gm cocoa powder
  • 7.50 gm ground cinnamon
  • 1.25 gm bicarbonate of soda
  • 130.00 gm buttermilk
  • 100g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 40.40 gm cream
  • 1.25 gm ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C and prepare a 20cm round cake pan by greasing and lining it. In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Gradually add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Combine the flour, cocoa, cinnamon, and bicarbonate of soda in a sifter. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture along with the buttermilk until fully incorporated. Transfer the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and fragrant. Let it rest in the pan for 5 minutes, then gently invert onto a wire rack to cool completely before adding the icing.
  • Prepare a rich and decadent chocolate icing by melting chocolate, cream, and cinnamon together in a small heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water. Stir until the mixture is smooth, then take if off the heat and generously spread it over your cake.
