Indulge in this irresistible chocolate cake loved by all ages.
Ingredients:
  • 250g butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 500g bittersweet chocolate (58 per cent)
  • 7 (65g each) eggs
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 40g plain flour
  • 50g cocoa powder
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 200°C. Place a roasting pan half-filled with water on the lower shelf for moisture. Grease and line a 22cm springform pan.
  • In a heatproof bowl, melt butter and chocolate together over simmering water for 5 minutes without stirring. Stir with a spatula until well combined. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Whip eggs and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer for about six minutes until thick and pale. Gently sift flour over the egg mixture and fold in with a spatula until just combined. Add chocolate and stir briefly. Transfer the batter to a greased cake pan.
  • Place the dish on the middle rack in the oven set at the correct temperature and let it bake until firm. Take it out of the oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool.
  • Gently transfer the cake onto a cake stand and sprinkle with cocoa powder before serving.
