Indulge in a decadent chocolate breakfast treat for Valentine’s Day. Prep the night before and awaken to a special morning meal full of chocolatey goodness.
Ingredients:
  • 12 slices (1 inch thick) French bread
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • Additional semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 lb strawberries, halved
  • 1/2 cup real maple syrup
Instructions:
  • Prepare the 13x9-inch pan by generously greasing the bottom and sides, then elegantly arrange the bread slices in the pan.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, gently simmer milk, cream, butter, granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. Take off the heat and stir in 3/4 cup of chocolate chips until melted and smooth. Slowly whisk in eggs until well combined and the mixture thickens.
  • Drizzle the chocolate mixture generously over the bread, ensuring each slice is fully coated. Flip the slices if needed. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but no more than 8 hours. Take out of the fridge 30 minutes before baking.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 25-30 minutes until the chocolate mixture sets. While it bakes, prepare the Strawberry Syrup.
  • In a saucepan, combine strawberries and maple syrup. Simmer on medium-high heat until strawberries soften. Mash slightly with a fork or potato masher. Keep syrup warm until serving. Drizzle over warm French toast and sprinkle with powdered sugar and chocolate chips.
