Decadent chocolate malt powder bars.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup chocolate malt powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 cup chocolate malt powder
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan. Melt the unsweetened chocolate in a bowl over simmering water or in the microwave until smooth. Let it cool.
  • Cream the shortening and white sugar until light and fluffy in a medium bowl. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla. Stir in melted chocolate. In a separate bowl, combine flour, 1/2 cup chocolate malt powder, baking powder, and salt; fold into the chocolate mixture. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until fully set. Allow the bars to cool in the pan before adding the frosting.
  • Cream together butter, 1/4 cup malt powder, and salt. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar and heavy cream until smooth. Spread over cooled bars before cutting into squares.
