Quick-bake casserole dessert combining favorite flavors.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 can (16 ounces) pitted red tart cherries packed in water, undrained
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 6 drops red food color
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup low-fat milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine 2 tablespoons brown sugar and cornstarch in a 2-quart saucepan. Add cherries and cook over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Stir in almond extract and food color. Transfer mixture to an ungreased 1-quart casserole dish.
  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use a pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives to cut in butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add milk and vanilla, stirring until a soft dough forms. Drop 6 spoonfuls of dough onto the hot cherry mixture.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy. Enjoy warm.
