Deliciously moist strawberry shortcake cake, perfect on its own or for making homemade shortcakes.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.33333334326744 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), then grease a 9-inch square cake pan. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  • Use an electric mixer to cream the shortening and sugar in a large bowl until fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk, mixing until just combined. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for around 25 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
