Indulge in crispy country fried steak with a savory Salisbury gravy, featuring sauteed onions and mushrooms for extra flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 4 3-ounce steaks
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 0.25 cup chopped onion
  • 0.25 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • In a container, mix together bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and green onion. In a bowl, beat the egg until fluffy, then whisk in the milk. Dip the steaks in the egg batter, then coat them with the bread crumb mixture and place on a plate.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter with olive oil. Increase heat to medium-high and add steaks to the pan. Sear steaks without flipping for 2 minutes until browned. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until golden brown. Transfer steaks to a plate and lower heat to medium.
  • Saute onion and mushrooms until softened in a saucepan for 3 to 5 minutes. Gradually pour in broth, flour, and cornstarch while stirring the gravy continuously. Lower the heat and simmer without stirring for 1 minute. Give it a final stir, then remove from heat and let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes for the gravy to thicken. Pour the gravy over the steaks.
