Country Fried Squash

"Easy comfort food: Crispy golden fried yellow squash slices."
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 0.5 cup cornmeal
  • 1 pinch garlic salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup oil for frying
  • 6 pounds butternut squash - peeled, seeded and sliced
Instructions:
  • In a small bowl, gently combine milk and egg. In another bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, garlic salt, pepper, and salt together.
  • In a deep skillet, warm oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 to 375 degrees F (180 to 190 degrees C).
  • Coat each squash slice in the egg mixture before covering in flour mixture.
  • Cook the breaded squash slices in hot oil until they are crispy and golden brown on both sides. Place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil before serving right away.
