Festive holiday spiral ham with cranberry-orange mustard glaze.
Ingredients:
  • Glaze:
  • 1/2 a 14-ounce can jellied cranberry sauce
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 strips orange zest
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • Ham:
  • 1/2 spiral-cut ham (about 9 pounds, plus or minus), bone-in, natural juices or no added water
Instructions:
  • Allow ham to come to room temperature.
  • Wrap the ham snugly in foil, then roast it in a 275°F oven for 2 to 2 1/2 hours until it reaches an internal temperature of 100°F.
  • In a small saucepan over low heat, combine jellied cranberry sauce, orange juice, and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Add orange zest strips and heat until bubbly, whisking until smooth. Remove from heat, discard the orange zest, and stir in the mustard.
  • After baking the ham, unveil the foil and generously brush half of the glaze over it. Roast the ham uncovered at 425°F for another 10 minutes to caramelize the glaze.
  • Apply another layer of glaze and put it under the broiler. Take it out, brush on the rest of the glaze, then return it to the oven on the lowest rack. Broil for 5 to 10 minutes, making sure it's at least 6 inches away from the heating element, until the glaze is golden and caramelized.
  • Carefully separate the spiral cut slices from the bone using a paring knife. Place the ham on a serving dish and drizzle with some of the flavorful pan juices before enjoying. Don't forget to save the bone for a delicious ham soup!
