Easy and delicious cranberry orange duck with a sweet and savory glaze for crispy skin and juicy meat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder, or more to taste
  • 1 (5 1/2 pound) whole duck
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 orange - zested, peeled, and cubed
  • 1 (12 ounce) bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 ounce brandy-based orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier®)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Season the duck cavity with aromatic Chinese five-spice powder, then stuff it with flavorful onion and juicy cubed orange.
  • In a saucepan, mix cranberries, orange liqueur, honey, white sugar, and soy sauce. Cook and stir until the glaze thickens like jam, about 7 to 10 minutes. Let it cool for about 3 minutes before using.
  • Place the duck on a roasting rack in a pan and generously brush with the glaze.
  • Roast in the oven until the meat is no longer pink at the bone and the juices are clear, for approximately 2 1/2 hours. Check with an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, close to the bone, to ensure it reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
