Versatile shells perfect for sweet or savory fillings, freeze well for convenience.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine shortening, salt, and boiling water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, add flour all at once, and stir vigorously until a ball forms. Remove from heat and add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until the mixture is thick, shiny, and easily comes off the spoon.
  • Scoop the mixture onto a cookie sheet without greasing and bake for 20 minutes. Then lower the heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the color is golden and they sound hollow when tapped. Let them cool before filling.
