Crema di limoncello is a luscious, homemade lemon cream liqueur that is the ultimate sweet and tangy treat, perfect for enjoying after a meal or gifting to loved ones.
Ingredients:
  • 12 lemons
  • 1 (750 mL) bottle Everclear 190 proof
  • 1 1/2 quarts whole milk
  • 7 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 (3g) packet powdered pure vanilla extract, such as Paneangeli® Vanillina, or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 (750 mL) decorative bottles with tight-fitting lids, or more if bottles are smaller
Instructions:
  • Make sure to wash and scrub the lemons to get rid of any wax or residue. Use a vegetable peeler or a sharp knife to carefully remove only the yellow part of the peel, being cautious not to take off any of the white pith.
  • Combine the lemon zest and Everclear in a sealed glass jar. Allow the mixture to infuse in a cool, dark spot for a minimum of 2 weeks.
  • Combine milk and sugar in a large heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling. Add powdered or liquid vanilla extract, then cool the mixture completely by removing it from the heat.
  • Strain the lemon mixture into the milk mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove the zest completely; thoroughly mix. Transfer the mixture to a container with a pour spout, then pour into decorative bottles and freeze for storage.
