Crunchy oat and Grape Nuts® topping enhances classic apple crisp.
Ingredients:
  • 5 apples - peeled, cored, quartered, and cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 0.5 lemon, juiced
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup wheat and barley nugget cereal (such as Grape-Nuts®)
  • 0.5 cup melted butter
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 0.33333334326744 cup brown sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prevent browning of sliced apples by tossing them with lemon juice.
  • Combine flour, rolled oats, wheat and barley nugget cereal, melted butter, 1/4 cup white sugar, and 1/4 cup brown sugar in a large bowl until well mixed.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup white sugar, and cinnamon until the sugar begins to dissolve, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add apples and water, cooking and stirring until the apples soften and are coated with the sauce, approximately 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the apples and sugar combo into a 2-quart baking dish, and evenly sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges. Let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
